Biodegradability of bioplastic blown film in a marine environment

چکیده
The waste created by single-use plastics is an important global issue, especially in marine environments, because they do not degrade nature. This work aimed to study the biodegradability of bioplastic blown film, which may pose a solution this problem. Polybutylene succinate (PBS) and polylactic acid (PLA) films were chosen for examination their when submerged sand under seawater floated on surface our experimental setup. Bioplastics observed comparison with low-density polyethylene (LDPE), petroleum-based plastic. PBS film exhibited faster degradation rate than PLA while LDPE did environment. was confirmed physical observation, change chemical functional group measured Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, test biochemical oxygen demand after due ingestion bacteria seawater.

متن کاملDeterioration of Concrete in Ambient Marine Environment (RESEARCH NOTE)
Structural concrete exposed to marine environment deserves special attention as the diffused sea salts chemically react with harden cement matrix and forms various expansive/leachable compounds leading to loss of material, strength, cracking, spalling etc. This study cover the effect of sea water on the specimens cast from two grades of concrete exposed to simulated marine environment over a ye...

The biodegradability of three types of bioplastic pots was evaluated by measuring carbon dioxide produced from lab-scale compost reactors containing mixtures of pot fragments and compost inoculum held at 58 °C for 60 days. Biodegradability of pot type A (composed of 100% polylactic acid (PLA)) was very low (13 ± 3%) compared to literature values for other PLA materials. Near infrared spectrosco...

Synthetic nanoparticles have already been detected in the aquatic environment. Therefore, knowledge on their biodegradability is of utmost importance for risk assessment but such information is currently not available. Therefore, the biodegradability of fullerenes, single, double, multi-walled as well as COOH functionalized carbon nanotubes and cellulose and starch nanocrystals in aqueous envir...
